Джозеф Линквито родился 2 августа 1951 года в семье итальянских эмигрантов, проживавшей в то время в Нью-Джерси. В детстве он пытался играть на аккордеоне, а в подростковом возрасте, увлекшись ритм-энд-блюзом, освоил гитару. Его первыми школьными командами были "Filet Of Soul" и "Ezra", которые исполняли каверы Джими Хендрикса, "Free" и "Deep Purple". Успех пришел к Джо Линну Тернеру (так теперь называл себя Джозеф) в 1976 году в рядах "Fandango". Эта команда исполняла эклектичную смесь ритм-энд-блюза, кантри, джаза и мелодик-рока. Тернер играл на гитаре и пел на всех четырех альбомах "Fandango".
Когда группа распалась, Джо отправился искать работу в Нью-Йорк, где его неожиданно застиг звонок Ричи Блэкмора. "Радужный" гитарист как раз был озабочен поисками вокалиста и пригласил Тернера на прослушивание. Блэкмор остался чрезвычайно доволен встречей, и таким образом Тернер получил место фронтмена в "Rainbow". Надо сказать, что "Радуга" в то время не пользовалась в Штатах таким успехом как в Европе, и именно приход Тернера изменил ситуацию. Несколько песен группы в исполнении Джо вошли в горячую двадцатку рок-радиочартов, а самым большим хитом стала композиция "I Surrender".
В 1984-м Блэкмор воссоединился с "Deep Purple", а освободившийся Тернер получил возможность записать дебютный альбом. Затем пару лет Джо занимался сессионной работой, а в 1987-м стал участником "Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Forse". Записанный с ним альбом "Odyssey" стал лучшим в дискографии шведского гитариста. В 1989 году Тернер вновь получил ангажемент от Ричи Блэкмора, на сей раз как от участника "Deep Purple". Джо был безумно рад поработать с кумирами своей юности и поэтому тут же дал согласие. В составе "DP" Тернеру удалось записать лишь один альбом, после чего под давлением Лорда и Пейса он был выдворен из группы. После отставки Джо работал в прог-банде "Mother's Army", а затем начал выступать под вывеской "JLT All Star Band".
В 1995-м он выпустил второй сольник с характерным названием "Nothing's Changed". И действительно, казалось, что для музыканта со времен "Rainbow" ничего не изменилось. Спустя два года Тернер решил отдать дань своим музыкальным корням, выпустив сборник каверов с композициями Марвина Гэя, "Bad Company" и других исполнителей. Сольные работы Тернера стали достаточно востребованными во всем мире после выхода диска "Hurry Up And Wait". За этой пластинкой последовали альбомы "Holy Man", "Slam!" и "JLT". Все они имели коммерческий успех и положительные отзывы в прессе.
Между тем Джо продолжал работать и на стороне. Так, например, музыкант стал одной из ключевых фигур в хард-роковом проекте болгарского гитариста Николо Котцева "Brazen Abbot". Но наиболее удачное партнерство сложилось у Тернера с бывшим диппепловцем Гленном Хьюзом. Сначала басист просто помогал Джо в японском турне в поддержку "Holy Man". Однако совместная работа настолько понравилась обоим музыкантам, что они решили организовать совместный проект под названием "Hughes Turner Project".
"HTP" записали пару студийных альбомов и выпустили один концертник. В феврале 2005 года вышла очередная сольная работа Джо Линна Тернера, "The Usual Suspects". В записи альбома, изданного итальянским лейблом "Frontiers" принимали участие такие выдающиеся личности как Эл Питрелли ("Megadeth", "Savatage), Джон О'Рейлли ("Rainbow) и Карл Кочран (Ace Frehley).

Если первые альбомы черпали вдохновение в сольных альбомах Turner'a или групп, где он пел, то для третьего альбома Turner и Frontiers решили вспомнить о бесчисленных записях бэк-вокала в 80-е для других музыкантов. Так, к примеру, вспомнили о нескольких мелодик-роковых жемчужинах Michael'a Bolton'a, песни "Gina", (в оригинале включенной в альбом "The Hunger" ), треках "You Wouldn't Know Love" и "Emotional Fire", которые Bolton написал для альбома "Heart Of Stone" Cher.
"Я пел бэки в оригинальной версии "Gina"" - говорит Joe. "Michael и я записали все партии, но я сделал чуть более роковое звучание, чем это было в оригинале, не такое попсовое! Получилась отличная песня. Была забавно слышать 'Emotional Fire' от Desmond Child, то, как она создавалась, после чего он попросил записать для нее бэки! Настоящее безумие, все как будто идет по одному большому кругу!"
Сведение и продюсирование альбома вновь выполнил Dennis Ward (PINK CREAM 69, PLACE VENDOME, ANGRA), а в сам альбом вошли треки от Soren'a Kronkvist'a (CRASH THE SYSTEM, ISSA), Tom'a и James'a Martin'a (VEGA, SUNSTORM, KHYMERA) и Daniel'a Palmqvist'a (XORIGIN, THE MURDER OF MY SWEET) Третий диск SUNSTORM определенно придется по душе всем поклонникам хард-рока.
